Winter Café 2024
The yearly Winter Café at the Melville Knox Parkhead Campus was another great success this year, with both primary and secondary students coming together for musical performances, stall sales and lovely home baking provided by the PFA. It was an opportunity for students to showcase their learning across different subjects, from Art to Modern Foreign Languages.
The assembly hall looked beautiful as ever, with winter decorations by Mrs Fraser and the creative P5-7s, whose DIY festoons made the hall look extra festive. The Gingerbread House once again became the much-loved home of all things Tea & Coffee and home-made treats, completing the winter theme.
Once the hall was filled up and every seat was taken, parents and visitors got to enjoy the pupils’ beautiful performances.
The students performed songs such as ‘Love the Lord with all your heart’, ‘Rejoice in the Lord’ and ‘Jesus loves me’, which was sung in Spanish. The P1 and P2 students displayed their learning with songs about the seasons, and the use of recycled items as instruments to accompany their singing.
Particular courage was displayed by students who gave solo performances for their guests, with instrumental pieces on the piano, violin and flute showcasing the talent amongst the students. Duets from pupils playing alongside their music teacher Miss Markoff showed the hard work put in by students practising their pieces for the day.
Following the performances, visitors also had time to browse the stalls full of home-made or donated items to purchase. Students helping at the sale were glad to see so many toys, clothes and baked goods finding a new home that day.
Thank you to everyone who came along and/or supported the event, from preparing food, helping with the décor, to assisting students with their performances… all was done with great effort. We are grateful to have had such a blessed time together and for the opportunity to have been able to raise funds for the important work at our school.
